Scam mail is illegal postal mail sent out by criminals all over the world. It can cheat some elderly people out of their entire life savings by promising large cash prizes in return for sending money in the form of 'release fees' or similar. We have worked with the Think Jessica organisation to highlight the problem since 2007.
We identified that the best way to raise awareness of scam mail was to primarily focus the campaign on the families and friends of victims and potential targets, rather than aiming the message solely at the victims themselves. By using an emotive image and headline to form the basis of the campaign we created a successful hard hitting visual that promoted the Think Jessica website. The campaign was rolled out nationally in the form of outdoor posters, literature, campaign stickers and promotional merchandise.
It has proved to be one of our biggest success stories yet with a 350% increase in website visits in November 2009 exactly a month after the campaign was launched. It also attracted the attention of many more police forces nationally and helped to secure additional funding and support for Think Jessica throughout England and Wales.
We look forward to working with Think Jessica on phase two of the project in 2011.
